Mayor Bloomberg and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Announce Major Milestone of Number 7 Subway Extension With Lowering of First Tunnel Boring Machine "Cutter Head"
Mayor Bloomberg, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Robert C. Lieber and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Executive Director and CEO Elliot G. Sander today announced the next phase of the Number 7 subway extension as the 100-ton tip of the tunnel boring machine was lowered into an assembly chamber under 11th Avenue.
